Kiwanis Club of Sheraden Pittsburgh
Service to our community is our goal. We sponsor several community projects each month of the year. We pride ourselves in our service projects and are looking for new members who are willing to make that same commitment. If you are looking for a way to spend some of your time in service to others, then it is our club you are looking for!
We invite you to contact one of the club officers listed and join us for dinner on Thursday and learn more about our club and meet a fine group of community minded citizens.

Flags Over Sheraden
For the last 10 years, our club members have hung 40 USA flags, a state of PA flag and a city of Pittsburgh flag on 6 patriotic holidays along Chartiers Avenue (the main road) in Sheraden. We campaigned to raise about $1500 to purchase the flags and have special pole brackets made. Over the years we have lost brackets when the electric company replaced the poles, lost flags and poles when a strong thunder storm this the area. We have replaced worn flags, broken poles and spinners that no longer do their job. When we took the flags down after the 4th of July in 2016 it was obvious that our flags all needed replaced. with that also came the idea to expand the number of flags we displayed. Prices for everything has soared in the last 10 years and we did not want to cut corners from the Free events we provide for the children throughout the year. So in August, letters were mailed to the few businesses we still have in the community and to many of the active community members. We were able to raise a little more than $3000. That would help replace everything but would not allow us to expand our efforts. So our secretary applies for a grant from the PA District Foundation and we are happy to announce that we received a $1500 grant that will be presented to us on March 2, 2017. It is with these additional funds that we will be able to expand the numbers of flags were are able to display along the road. In April we will order all of our new flags, posts, brackets and spinners to be prepared to attach the brackets before our first raising of the flags for Memorial Day 2017. Thank you to our community who supported this effort, thank you to the Foundation for making our vision a reality and thank you to our club members who on each holiday diligently get up on that truck at 7am to raise the flags each time and take them down again.
